Money Candle Birthday Card

I told you yesterday that I would share the birthday card I made for my nephew. The idea came from this card that Debbie made, and I thought it would be fun to use money instead. What kid doesn't like getting money for a birthday!?  This was also my first time using washi tape.  I recently picked some up and am having fun playing with it.
I put a piece of twine in the center of the money.

Then I rolled the money up as tight as I could, making sure I rolled all of them the same direction so the '5' would show, and then used washi tape to secure them.
I used some fun string to wrap around the candles, after I stuck them to some scotch tape.
My nephew was SO excited to get this card.  He had those candles off and unwrapped in no time flat.  I love when the recipient loves the gift as much as you hope they will.

PS: Come back later, I'll be posting about having the chance to go to Doodlebug Design last night!!  It was SO FUN!!

For the Graduate - Money Card

The other day, I was making a birthday card for my nephew {I'll share that with you tomorrow}, and while working on it I came up with an idea for this graduation card.  My goal was to create a card with money on it, and have the money look like a rolled up diploma.  I used a $1 bill for this because that is all I had in my wallet, and this is just for an idea, I don't know anyone who is graduating this year.  But I think it would be fun to put a $20 on the front of the card. :)
Money gift, graduation gift, money card, graduation money card
For the money, I simply rolled it up as tight at I could get it, and then put a coordinating piece of washi tape around it to hold it into place.  The washi tape comes off of the money very easily, although you do need to be cautious when removing it.  Then I tied a piece of twine in a bow around it.  I used scotch tape to stick it to the card, so it would also be easy to remove.
I found a couple of fun graduation stamps in my stash {that I've never used until now} that I thought I would used to add to the card.
Using my Cricut and the Makin' the Grade cartridge I cut out the numbers for 2012.
I think this would be a fun card to give to a graduate and a different way to give them money.
While I was working on this card, it hit me, like a ton of bricks, that I've been out of high school for 13 years now!  Yikes, I'm getting old! :)

You Make Me Happy...

Do you ever go somewhere and see something and it reminds of a specific person.  A couple of weeks ago, I went into The Wood Connection, and was looking at all of the new summer stuff that they have out, and I saw this cute Sunshine with this quote, and I knew I HAD to get it for Debbie!  The vinyl that The Wood Connection has for this is adorable, but they were out of it, and I wanted to get it done, so I cut my own with my Cricut.
I put paper on the Sun after I painted it, and then painted and glittered the center circle.
After I painted the block, I put paper on it, then stuck the vinyl on.
I glued the sun to the dowel then tied a ribbon around it, and that was it.  It came together so quickly, but I love how it turned out!  I hope Debbie likes it as much as I do.  Now I need to make one for me so we can have matching ones. :)

Monogram C Letter

This is my guest post from over at The Wood Connection today.
This project is made using the brand new Monogram Letters that The Wood Connection has.  These letters are 17" tall and the width changes depending on the letter.  This letter C is about 12" wide, and they are only $5.95!  I knew when I saw this that I wanted to put paper on the front of it, but being 17" tall, that was going to be a little bit tricky.  I'll show you how I did it.
I started by lining up the pattern of the chevron paper, and then taping it in place.
Then I turned the paper over and taped the back really well.
I removed the tape on the front, and then set the C down on the paper and traced it.  Then cut the paper out for the letter and set it aside.
I painted the edges, and then adhered the paper to the front, overlapping the seam a little bit, making sure that the chevron on the paper lined up right.
Then I embellished with this fun ribbon {from The Wood Connection}, buttons, and paper right over the top of the seam.  The embellishments kind of really make me happy.  I love how they turned out!

This Monogram Letter is definitely one of my very favorite projects that I've ever finished!  It makes me happy just looking at it.
